Stewardship, Pledging, and Giving

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: WHAT IS STEWARDSHIP?

A: Stewardship is an offering to God in thanksgiving for his gifts. It is a commitment each individual makes as an expression of faith. In practical terms, stewardship is a personal promise to use money, time, and talents in support of the church’s mission to bring the light of the Gospel into the world.

Q: WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO MAKE A PLEDGE?

A:  Holy Trinity sets an annual budget before the start of the year. Pledges from congregation members help the church project income and allow it to plan expenditures based on that amount. Pledgers make payments on a regular basis, usually weekly or monthly, so that by the end of the year, the full pledge has been fulfilled. A pledge is a statement of intent, not a legal obligation. It can be changed at any time.

Q: HOW DO PEOPLE DECIDE ON HOW MUCH TO PLEDGE?

A:  Pledging is a personal or family decision, and many factors can go into deciding how much to pledge. There is no “right” amount. What matters is that a pledge reflects the person’s response to God’s blessings. In practical terms, a pledge is often a percentage of income.

Q:  HOW DOES HOLY TRINITY USE THE PLEDGED FUNDS?

A:  Annual pledges provide the funds necessary to keep Holy Trinity operational. We do not receive income from the wider church, and our endowment fund is intended for TKtype expenses rather than general operating funds. Pledges cover everything from clergy and staff salaries and the electric bill to music for the choir, curriculum for Sunday School and Godly Play, and parish activities like book studies and meals. In short: Your pledges keep Holy Trinity’s doors open for all the activities of our congregation, and to welcome the wider Fayetteville community.

Holy Trinity’s Vestry and Finance Committee create the annual budget and oversee expenses.

Q: DO I RECEIVE A STATEMENT?

A:  Yes. Everyone who pledges receives quarterly statements via Realm, our church management software. The statements are emailed but please let us know if you need a hard copy. All financial gifts to Holy Trinity are tax-deductible.

Q:  HOW DO I SUBMIT MY PLEDGE?

A:  Paper pledge cards are available all year. They are included in the welcome bags distributed on your first Sunday or may be found at the electronic giving station as you enter the church from the gravel parking lot. Completed cards may be placed in the offering plate, mailed to the office at 1601 Raeford Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28305, or handed to the rector, the Rev. Nan Cekuta.

You can also complete a pledge card online by clicking the link under the graphic on this page.

Q: HOW DO I PAY MY PLEDGE?

A:  There are many ways to pay a pledge. The most common are a check or cash on a Sunday morning, electronic transfer online, online bill pay through your financial institution, or credit/debit card through our online portal at https://onrealm.org/HolyTrinityEpis/-/form/give/now or through the kiosk on Sunday morning. Please call the office at (910) 484-2134 with questions or clarification on these options.
